Medical Devices and Vulnerable Skin Network

IMPRESS have been invited to attend a sandpit event in October organised by the Medical Devices and Vulnerable Skin Network (MDVSN) at Southampton University.

The MDVSN represents an EPSRC-NIHR HTC funded partnership led by the University of Southampton (Prof Dan Bader and Dr Pete Worsley) and Kings College London (Dr Patricia Grocott), with support from the NIHR Healthcare Technology Co-operatives (HTCs) associated with Devices for Dignity (D4D) and Wound Prevention & Treatment and named academic and industrial collaborators.

Its strategic aims are to introduce cutting-edge technologies and scientific understanding in order to reduce the incidence of mechanical-induced damage of vulnerable skin caused by interventional medical devices in various clinical settings.

The event will include presentations on

  • Vascular Dysfunction and Vulnerable Skin
  • Device related pressure ulcers in trauma patients
  • Skin breakdown in premature neonates
  • Typical experiences in general hospitals with mattresses and sitting support surfaces
